Summary:
The Cabinetmaker performs advanced carpentry and woodworking tasks in support of Viking Yacht Company yacht construction and production operations. This position fabricates, assembles, fits, modifies, repairs, and installs high-quality cabinetry, doors, framework, fixtures, trim, and other interior wooden components. The Cabinetmaker works from drawings, specifications, templates, and work orders and uses woodworking machinery, hand tools, and power tools to produce precise components that meet Viking Yacht Company craftsmanship and quality standards.
Responsibilities:
  • Fabricate, assemble, fit, modify, repair, and install custom cabinetry, doors, drawers, framework, fixtures, trim, panels, and other interior yacht components.
  • Measure, mark, cut, shape, drill, route, sand, fit, and install materials according to drawings and specifications.
  • Perform interior joinery and detailed finish carpentry to achieve precise fit, alignment, function, and appearance.
  • Work with marine plywood, hardwoods, veneers, laminates, composites, and other materials used in yacht interiors.
  • Select appropriate materials based on application, dimensions, appearance, grain, quality, and production specifications.
  • Install and adjust hinges, drawer slides, latches, pulls, fasteners, and other cabinet hardware.
  • Read and interpret work orders, drawings, blueprints, specifications, measurements, and templates.
  • Operate woodworking machinery, hand tools, and power tools safely and accurately.
  • Inspect materials prior to use and identify defects, damage, or other quality concerns.
  • Inspect completed work for dimensions, fit, alignment, operation, finish, appearance, and overall craftsmanship.
  • Perform cabinetry repairs, modifications, and adjustments as required during yacht construction.
  • Maintain close tolerances and make necessary adjustments to ensure components fit properly within the vessel.
  • Protect finished woodwork, cabinetry, materials, and surrounding yacht surfaces from scratches, dents, contamination, or other damage.
  • Identify material, drawing, measurement, or fit discrepancies and communicate concerns to the Foreman or Supervisor.
  • Coordinate with other Carpentry, Production, Engineering, Quality, and installation personnel as necessary.
  • Complete assigned work according to established production schedules and Viking Yacht Company quality standards.
  • Maintain tools, machinery, equipment, and work areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
  • Follow all company safety procedures, machine-guarding requirements, and required PPE practices.
  • Perform other related duties and tasks as needed or as directed by management.

Requirements:
  • Strong knowledge of marine plywood, hardwoods, veneers, woodworking materials, and proper material selection and application.
  • Strong woodworking, cabinetmaking, and mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to accurately use tape measures, squares, levels, gauges, and other measuring devices.
  • Ability to perform precise measurements and basic shop mathematics.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints, specifications, templates, and work orders.
  • Ability to safely operate woodworking machinery, hand tools, and power tools.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality craftsmanship.
  • Ability to identify fit, alignment, measurement, material, and workmanship issues and make necessary corrections.

Description:
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous cabinetmaking, woodworking, millwork, finish carpentry, furniture manufacturing, or related experience preferred.
  • Experience with yacht woodworking, cabinetry repair, and interior joinery is highly preferred.
  • Marine or yacht manufacturing experience is a plus.
  • Vocational or technical training in cabinetmaking, woodworking, carpentry, or a related trade is a plus.
  • Equivalent combinations of relevant education, training, and hands-on experience will be considered.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, and repetitive hand movements.
  • Ability to safely lift and carry materials and components weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to handle large or awkward panels and components using appropriate equipment or team-lifting practices.
  • Requires manual dexterity and close visual attention when measuring, cutting, fitting, assembling, installing, and inspecting components.
  • Ability to work aboard yachts and in confined or restricted spaces as required.
  • May be exposed to wood dust, noise, adhesives, finishes, machinery, and other conditions associated with a manufacturing and woodworking environment.
  • Must be able to safely use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
